3rd Grade

Below are some of the poems written by the students who participated in this program during the 2023-24 school year.

Alachua Elementary

  • On a nature trail we saw trees

and they were dancing like boiling peas

and we saw sheep they were soft as a pillow

We saw pigs and they were dirty like a bridge

It was cold like the inside of a fridge.

I saw birds and they were sing like a lady on a stage

I’m glad they weren’t trapped in a birdcage.

The sky was gray and the cows were eating hay

We saw flowers some were pink just like me

Animals and a hut made of straw and we saw balls

We had lunch and it tasted like brunch.

  • The sheep’s fur was dirty like a cat.

We heard birds flying around like a bat.

    We saw cows eating hay.

    And the sky was gray.

I liked my time at Morningside.

Even though it was a long bus ride.

  • We saw the sun, it was hot. The sky was gray, it looked like it was going to rain.

It was windy, sound like a airplane

We walked on a trail, we saw footprints on the nature trail.

    We saw trees dancing

We saw grass and the grass was sleeping with its pillow.

The grass was getting surprised, and the grass started dancing.

We saw animals, they were fighting.

We saw horses, they were going for a walk to find some food.

We saw cows, they said moo.

They were hot, it started to rain.

The cows went inside. Cows fell asleep

    We saw some chickens

They were drinking. We fed them, they ate the food, it was yum.

We saw an old house, there were kids. The kids were crying.

    We came, they left.

The house looks dirty, we couldn’t touch it

The house looks little, it was small.

The house had a kitchen to cook.

The house was a bit noisy.

    We couldn’t stomp.

    There was a piano,

we were excited to see the animals

  • The sheep were soft like a pillow

The sheep were dirty like a willow.

    We pet a cow.

    It felt like hay.

    We saw pigs.

    They were dirty with mud.

    We went on a hike.

    It was cold.

  • Sheep so soft

    Warm like the sun

    Searching for deer prints

    Oh so fun

    Heard birds singing

    Like the cow bells ringing

We saw a big cabin there

Everyone stared snap snap clap clap

    Oh morning side nature park

I,ll want to vist in the dark snap snap

    Oh morning side nature park

I want to vist you in the dark clap clap

I said now sheep soft warm like the sun

Searching for deer prints oh so fun heard the birds singing

Lake Forest Elementary

  • The sheep was white like a cloud

The snake was soft like the sheep

The leaves are crunchy like chips

The pig has sharp teeth like a lion

The airplane was loud like a lion growling

The cows were as stinky as a pig pen.

  • The snake was as soft as a feather.

    It was smooth like butter.

It was black, orange, and a little brownish.

The snake slithers like a rope.

The snake’s eyes shone like a light.

  • The snake was like a noodle.

The sheep was like a poodle.

The cow was in a mood. The sheep bhaad for food.

The bird flew in the air like a fairy.

All of the bugs ate the berries.

    The frog was slimy.

    It was very tiny.

The trees moved in the wind.

    The sun brought light within.

  • The cow was as soft as a cat.

The snake felt as smooth as a pillow.

    The sheep smelled gross.

    The chickens were weird.

I wished I could pet the pig.

But I guess I’m too big.

  • The sheep were soft as a cloud.

The sheep smelled like a strawberry.

    The sheep’s noise was like a pig’s.

The sheep eat corn every day.

    The sheep looked like cotton.

One of the sheep had horns and he looked funny.

Littlewood Elementary

  • Scary smooth snake,

    Fine as fire,

    Burnt tree snag.

    “Baaa,” said the sheep.

    Daisy made no peep.

    Eating hay,

    Smellng bad,

    Brown big-eyed cows.

    Indians 100 years ago

Playing games, using weapons, building fires.

  • She threw the spear like a bullet in the wind,

    Hey! Are the Indians here?

The spear soared through the air,

Full of the scent of fire

    There was never once tire.

    Florida never dies, and

    The Indians are still here,

So, there is no reason to fear.

    Today is over, and

    We always have a clover,

    And fun will be forever.

  • Beautiful - the sheep were as puffy as clouds, cows there spots were like the night sky.

Peaceful - when we were listening, it was as quiet as a snail.

Disgusting - when I saw the cow’s poo it looked like hard mud.

Laughter - when the sheep ate the food off my hand it felt like someone kept tickling me.

Loud - when he rang the bell, it sounded like a goat screaming.

Tall - when I looked up at the trees, they were like my uncle but 100 times taller.

  • Sharp as a spear

    He had no fear,

    Moving like a monkey

    As he hit the chunky.

    Slimy, silly, slithering snake,

    Sneaking in the grass

    Waiting for his prey.

    Tall wire grass growing

    Taller than a buffalo

    Sharp as a spear

    Are the Potano here?

    Make me a fire,

    Filled up grass like wire.

    The day is done,

    Now it’s over,

    But always remember,

    The fun never ends!

  • The grass was dancing in the breeze,

The sheep were soft as silk,

We were scared when the smooth snake slithered down.

It was as sharp as a spear,

    The knight had fear,

    The chunky was funky.

    The cows were cool,

    But they aren’t fools.

    The sandhill was so high,

    Soon they will cry,

    We had so much fun,

We didn’t want it to be done.

  • Grass dancing in the breeze

    Wind waving through the trees,

Burnt pines sharp smell, sand, and shell.

    Sharp as a spear

    Leaf like a green pepper

    Snakeskin as smooth as butter

Bird with a beak like an eagle

Wire grass as tall as buffalo.

  • Morning is nice and hot

Out in the trail I heard many birds chirping

    Riding the bus with friends

    Nature is green and blooming

I see huge trees as tall as the clouds

    Nature smells minty an refreshing

Great big clouds like cotton balls

Sun is shining as bright as fire,

    I see hundreds of flowers

    Doing my duck call

    Eagles fighting
