Below are some of the poems written by the students who participated in this program during the 2025-26 school year.
Carolyn Beatrice Parker Elementary
-
Dropped off, birds calling, walking towards the cool breeze.
Looking, thinking, laughing, talking.
Walking under an ocean of sky.
Rippling water gets, even odder, when we hear a bellowing loud and proud.
Woodstork and Ibis standing side by side.
Blue Heron dips and dives, catching her prey.
And the White Stork flying in the wind.
Lay on the crisp grass.
Hear the crinch, crunch of the trail.
See the lush beauty of the park.
Fell like a floating cloud.
Deer, beautiful as a sunset.
Waterfellow perched.
Like a majestic flower blooming in spring.
Walking over water see fish and alligators.
Blue waters, sky waters.
Living in it, seeing it, breathing the soft, delicate, almost touchable air is a lifetime, a paradise.
We’re off again.
Looking out the window, wondering, wishing, hoping.
Feel the nag in the pit of your stomach.
Yearning you to sprint back
I’ll come again, sooner or later.
Sweetwater, see you soon.
-
alligators bellowing
birds chirping
alligators taking baths
fish running like rabbits
birds in trees taking care of their babies
grass smelled like poop
spikes in the grass
turtles sleeping like bears
snakes in their home
little birds hiding
alligators in grass
birds fly fast for food
and worms hiding
-
The water was as sparkly as glitter
The people were as nice as a flower
There were lots of birds in the air
There were plants every were
The sun was as hot as fire
The water clear like the air
The leaves were as colorful as a rainbow
The alligators were as green as a swamp
we were walking long and far
But now it’s time to go by sweetwater.
-
At sweetwater wetlands
The sun says hello It
Sparkles like glitter
On water below the
Grasses all whisper
The cattails all
Sway as clouds drift slowly, lazy, and gray
An alligator resets like a long in the mud
So still he could be dreaming of a swampy flood
Turtles wear helmets of green and brown basking like a king with
A sunshine crown birds paint the sky with feathers and
Sound their songs are music floating around the
Wetlands wild watery home by the edge of the lake
-
The ducks have colorful beaks
I wonder what will it sound like if the animals could speak
The sky as blue as my water bottle
Looking at the alligators waddle
Birds flying everywhere
Leaves flying in the air
The green plants
The biting ants
-
Tell sweetwater I said hello
See the sun round and yellow
Sweetwater is a wetland
A can of soup just not canned
There were birds
Tons of alligators in a herd
I see far away with binoculars
I walked on a path very circular
See the turtles in the sun
I’ll be having much more fun
-
The plaics was beautiful
There were a lott of birds
And the sun was as hot as a heater
The pond was green because the leaves on it
The sky was blue like water
I saw 3 alligators and they were beautiful
Some birds were black and one was blue
A mother bird was walking with her babies a little too close to the alligator sleeping
A red ant bit me but I was ok. It just hurt like a sun burn on my hand.
-
Alligators bellowing
It sounds like growling
I saw turtles birds too
The water is calm
Same with the wind
The whole place is a big loop
The wet lands is a big can of soup
I think i saw mold
It was very cold
The wetlands must be very old
Goodbye wetlands see you soon
Before noon!
-
Alligator’s everywhere
Bug’s buzzing in the air
Me just with my mom
Look at the birds!! Noo now their gone
Alligators i like there waddle
Me drinking my water bottle
There are lots of plants
Even little tiny ants
Sweetwater like a can of soup
We walked on a trail shaped like a loop
Turtles chilling in the sun
Splish, splash now there done
Smooth silly slithery snakes moving though the soil
-
Sweetwater is so fun
Sweetwater is a can of soup
Alligators sunbathing and mumbling
Lots of colorful birds
Turtles sleeping everywhere
I walk on a trail shaped like a loop
There where lots of different plants
The grass was green and soft like cotton candy
Hope i see you again sweetwater
-
Sweetwater wetland park
alligator everywhere
birds flying in the air
Water as blue my bottle
Its funny to see the alligator waddle
The duck have a colorful beak
Then it say quack quack quack
It was funny to Here, alligator’s bellow.
I heard birds chirping.
Chester Shell Elementary
-
The wind was blowing
It sounds like a howl
Trees dance in the wind
I feel like I could fly
Looks like plants can touch the sky
The breeze felt like smooth marble
It waves the trees and they wave back
The wind howls
It is loud
To the School, the farm, the hut, and down the trail
So that was a Gold Day
That day was a good day
That day was like my classroom
Loud and learning
Until the bus ride
-
We see leaves moving so smooth like flowing words,
Trees wiggling up and down,
Air sweet like vanilla,
Cow tongue sharp like needles,
The day was joyful,
At the park.
-
There was a long, hard trail,
it was a lot of fun.
Kinda like a stage light,
shined the hot, bright sun.
Looking at the trees,
I felt a very, very strong breeze.
Weird grass sways like an ocean wave,
I felt strong and really brave.
-
We saw cows named Zinnia and Daisy,
What and black and being very lazy.
Then the sheep look soft as cotton candy,
Covered in dirt and feeling kind of sandy.
Pig’s skin looks like strawberry milk,
And it felt as smooth as silk.
Lots of animals on the farm,
One bit me, oh darn!
-
We started at school,
all acting like a bull.
We got on the bus,
it was kinda fun.
We got to the park,
and we see the sun.
At the hut, the tools were cool,
they didn’t even eat with a spoon.
Then we went hunting,
not with a spear,
but with a tube.
The sky was kinda blue,
telling me hello.
The wind came and go,
the hut was so woah.
When I was paying attention,
it was like everybody was a ghost.
When we were leaving,
the sun was still beaming.
-
Grass like limey leaves
Trees flowing with the breeze
Vanilla smells in the air
Walking with friends felt kind of fair
Long longs stranded on the ground
At the end, snake scales very round
A walk down the sandhill trail
Lots of fun, not a fail
-
In a school like a church,
filled with different types of kids,
boards and chalk,
no desks around, only seats.
It felt weird, all crunched in tight.
I enjoyed the experience,
but would rather be at my own desk.
-
There was bark on the ground,
And many sounds all around.
We saw some cows nearby,
They were a little bit brown.
We gave the sheep some corn,
One sheep had horns so strong.
We saw an old school building,
I thought that it was cool.
I saw some spears and gears,
Things from long ago.
We went to the restroom there—
We thought it was the best one, you know!
We saw a tall pine tree,
Standing proud and fine.
It was a great field trip day,
And I had a really good time.
-
The snake felt soft like a pillow
The air is blowing off the leaves
While the cows are eating
Spears flew at the bunny
The field trip was a surprise
-
The trees were dancing in the breeze,
moving back and forth with ease.
Leaves were falling, red and gold,
a quiet story autum told.
A snake slid by along the ground,
curled up tight without a sound.
The grass was cool beneath our feet,
the air felt fresh and clean and sweet.
The wind blew softly through the trees,
whispering to every leaf.
It told them it was time to fall,
to spin and drift and rest at all.
We walked along, not fast or slow,
just enjoying what we know.
Dazzy cow rested in the shade,
lazy in the light that’s were she stayed.
A sheep stood watching, calm and still,
as we pet his soft wool, while feeding him a small meal.
Everything felt just right then
the day, the walk, the time, the when.
Autumn moved in gentle ways,
with quiet steps and peaceful days.
The world felt calm, the rhythm slow,
a perfect walk with a gentle wind blow.

Hello sweetwater, hello nature,
Gators’ skin is like tiny mountains.
Lakes sparkling like stars,
A turtle relaxing on a rock like watching tv.
The blue heron’s neck is like a stick,
White bird feeding its kid.
A vulture soaring across the sky,
A hawk flying in the sky like a ferris wheel.
Birds chirping and singing on trees.
White and old trees are everywhere,
Spanish moss covering them like a scarf.
Gallinules are black and have red beaks,
Snake birds moving like a snake above water.
Green leaves dancing on trees,
Like the wind is music for them.
Gators tanning in the sun,
Snake birds resting on plants.
Plants eating hydrogen,
To filter water for us to drink.
Blue heron towering over the plants,
Black bird soaring across the sky.
Goodbye sweetwater, goodbye nature,
I was thrilled to see all the nature there.
I felt miserable that I had to leave,
I hope I come back to see all the nature again.
-
The spanish moss was on the trees like the hair on someone’s head
And it was everywhere like a virus in someone’s body.
The waxweed smelled like fresh basil
and the leaves are shiny like clean glass.
The Egret strikes like a swift spear catching it’s prey
and the fish in it’s mouth soon to be swallowed.
The two black birds flew so fast it looked like they were racing
and they had balance like a person on a tightrope.
The alligator is thawing in a long sunbath
and the gator’s skin is like a gravel trail.
The Great Blue Heron’s neck was as long as a giraffe’s
and the heron flies gracefully as an airplane.
The Gallinule guarded their chick’s like a dragon gaurding treasure
and the chicks munched on plants like starving pigs
The dragonflies flew around so gracefully it looked like they were dancing
yet they zoomed around so fast I could barely see them.
In lunch the food was good and really gave me energy
in bird watching we saw a few birds that had colorful feathers.
The whole trip was really fun and beautiful
Now in medatation time i’m reconnecting with all of this nature.
-
I feel as the wind heads south.
As we keep walking I smell something off.
It gives me a bellyache as I try to not throw up.
My friends give me a headache as they call my name.
I see as the gator rests in the sun.
The water they gave feels like coming back from the dead.
The cold wind feels nice while the sun is beaming.
They tell me there are deers.
But sadly they were goners.
As we go on the deck.
I see the water making me see a gator.
The grass smells too much like grass.
As they spike up like needles.
I see a gator a bit too close to us.
Gladly it did not attack.
We saw a bunch of birds nesting.
About ten if not mistaken.
We meditated as the wind brushed through the grass.
Finding a bench as we were walking for hours.
The trip came to an end after we walked for hours.
-
As we walk through the swamp we hear birds chirping,
We also see lots of different animals.
The blue heron’s neck is skinnier than a stick.
The gator’s teeth are as sharp as 100 steak knives.
The gallinule’s head is redder than a strawberry.
The egret’s beak is as long as a train.
The tadpole swims faster than the Flash.
The turtle is as slow as a snail.
The grass fells worse than getting stung by 20 wasps.
The alligator whipped its tail like evil vines.
The trees are taller than 10 elephants.
The white bird is guarding its nest like a mom protecting her son.
The flowers were prettier than the rainbow.
The leaves smell like roses.
The wood is bumpier than alligator skin.
The black bird was as fast as light.
The baby ducks were scouring.
People litter like a bank getting robbed.
The gators are sun bathing in the sun.
The blue heron was towering over the plants.
The plants eating hydrogen,
To filter the water for us to drink.
Goodbye sweetwater, goodbye nature.
I’m jovial that I came,
And I’m thrilled to see all the nature that was there.
I feel miserable that I have to leave,
But I will come back to see all that I have missed.
-
As I enter I am nervous but then the buzzing, and chirping, and scratching
calms me. As I walk further and further I see a great blue heron flying
above me like it’s guiding me somewhere important. I want to follow but
then the magnificent blue bird flies out of sight.
I move on to an anthill. The fiery red ants enter the anthill like marching
little soldiers. I see an alligator on the bank getting a tan, the alligator looks
as though it would never move then finally “splash” the alligator dives
head first for a fish.
-
Sweet sweet sweetwter, sweeter than sugar.
Water wooshing in the lakes making the scene soothing.
Wind blowing against the trees making birds to tweet.
The skin of gators looks like the bark of trees.
The tree leaves are greener than a cactus.
The nests high in the trees and I hear a bird tweet.
The sky is so beautiful making it hard to focus.
Oh, hear that? Might be a locust.
The birds go and flap their wings so all I hear is a swift sweep.
The minnows in the water are making a little splash.
The grass is short making it hard to see.
Go to Sweetwater! It isn’t just for me!
-
The wetlands
The wetlands are homes for little critters that lie below,
Great blue herons you can find,
Great long necks like a giraffes’,
Fish tossing and turning like a manic,
Gators are everywhere, taking over,
You will find one so do not panic
And if you see something, don’t cause a manic,
Just tap a neighbor, and let them know,
And don’t forget your nature voice.
So you don’t scare the critters below.
The forests
The sweetwater forests strong and tall,
With leaves and branches growing up,
With birds’ nests all over the place
You’ll find one, don’t worry, just look up.
And you might just see a head pop out!
Well, if you’re there in spring, of course!
Birds in the trees singing like an opera,
With the trees swaying as the wind whistles through,
And the lime green leaves rustling and swaying,
As my feet crunch the gravel beneath me,
and the light of the bright sun,
Shining through the lime green leaves
And the bright blooming flowers’ colors overtaking me.
The glistening lakes
The bodies of water no matter,
the ponds or the lakes,
Or the rivers, or even a puddle,
They’re beautiful, always,
Trust me, please,
With little critters
like fish and little bugs,
And birds, gators, and a bit of moss, too.
It shines, it glistens,
And flows beautifully atop itself.
It’s all over the place,
so you’ll find some, don’t worry.
But despite its beauty, please don’t jump in!
Sweetwater park
Sweet sweetwater, holding many critters,
many small, many big.
Some short, some tall.
Some loud, and some you can barely hear!
No matter the critter, they’re beautiful, cute, (Depends who you are.)
And all natural, so don’t worry!
And don’t be scared of an snakes,
Because the loud gravel will scare them away,
Sweetwater’s awesome, so please visit,
You’ll love it, I promise, It’s perfect for all.
-
This is their home
Their very special biome
Leaves everywhere
Animals without a care
Wind is whistling
Gators like logs
Sticks are twiddling
We keep looking still no hogs
Air is sweet
Plants are smooth
This nice place is my groove
The water is swaying
Cattails like parades
Then I could tell this is a special place
Rocks like mountains
Birds singing their tunes
This place is beautiful
Yes, it’s true
All the animals doing their thing
All together
And, in spring.
Water’s going, swish swish
Birds are flying, flap flap
This nice place makes me relax
Sweetwater is great
It is no debate
By By Sweetwater
I’ll think of you at home.
-
The trees looked as if they were over a thousand years old
The air felt so humid but nowhere near cold
The Spanish Moss drifted lazily in the breeze
The Pollen really made me sneeze
The Gallenules screech was like an old car jamming on the brakes
There were hundreds of birds but there weren’t any snakes
The waxweed smelled like a mint plant in the summer
We didn’t see an deer that was a bummer
The ripples on the water looked so calm and ocmposed
The baby ducks looked pretty cute I suppose
The gators were lying lazily as if there was nothing else going on in the world
The Egrets tried plucking up the grubs but they curled
The Egret was as white as a freshly picked feather
We were lucky we had such good weather
Sweetwater what a wonderful place
For all of the animals living there Sweetwater was their birthplace
-
The waters lap, forever free,
So many things to see.
An egret flies, up in the skies,
A heron feeds its chick.
The algae makes a carpet of glass,
The grass dances in the wind.
A dragonfly zips in the reeds,
The wetlands are so free.
The waters lap, forever free,
The grasses swing to and fro, like pom-poms in turmoil.
The water shakes with what seems like rage,
But it’s just a gust of wind.
The gravel crunches beneath my feet,
As I watch the water flow.
The creek that fees the rivers mouth,
Runs without a care.
We stop to rest in a spot of grass,
A watch the mosses billow.
As the wind blows behind my back,
I know that peace has come at last.
One Room School House
-
There are many things that you can do at the nature park.
The nature park was like a normal park but with more peace and activities.
We met Mr. Old Yeller and got to pet him.
He felt very squishy smooth.
We met several animals and got to feed them.
We got to connect with nature, and learn new things.
It was different.
It was fun.
I would like to go back some day.
-
Nature everywhere
Some seeds acorns, squash, and some beans
The farm had animals
The cow had rough tongue like sand paper
There was some sheep they sounded like baaa baaa!
There was a snake
The scales were like a mosaic of tiny, dry stones.
There was a Redbud
I don’t know why they call it Redbud it should be could Redfuz
There was a bell that sounded Ding Ding Ding!
123 CHUNKY!
-
In nature, the air is fresh, like clean laundry. There are a lot of pine trees. Looking at the burnt ones was the most interesting. I want to grow as tall as one.
I liked getting to see the actual ONE ROOM SCHOOL HOUSE and playing the gam chunky, it was fun.
Seeing the cabin, feeding the cows, petting the sheep and then the snake… memories I will never forget.
The breeze. felling the breeze of the wind. That, that was the best.
-
Redbud trees, beautiful and bard,
Hot pink small flowers without any leaves,
Fire adaptive ferns bursting into the sky,
Stretching like a fern makes me feel as tall as one,
Meditation calms me down and makes me feel ok
Grassy trail, leafy floor,
Cloudy skies hot day,
Sun rays on my face,
Harvested tree, to turn sap into syrup,
Wooden table, wooden trees,
Small animals running, swaying in the wind,
Soft cold yellow grassland snake,
One room school, just like ours,
Eight windows to let in the light,
Loud bell, screaming in my ears,
No desk, only tablets
-
The animals were like the sun brightening the world.
The Old Yeller was brown as the ground.
We took a meditation to feel the stuff around us.
We heard the birds and the bell ring as we listened.
The warmth of the sun brought joy to the world.
-
Nature is fun,
We walk a ton,
Animals are nice,
You’ll see some mice,
your walk is done,
We played in the sun,
Running through the forest trees,
We had so much fun in the breeze,
Playing by the river run,
Beneath the sky its second to none,
Watching butterflies in the sun,
you know I am always the one,
My brain is sharp like the moon,
I’ve memorized every ancient rune,
I’m walking over a sand dune,
The moth is hiding in its silk cocoon,
The morning cold will vanish soon,
The afternoon sun will shine bright,
The animals here are very nice,
Don’t forget about the mice.
-
Bright sunny skies,
Exciting new things as we pass by,
Awesome new friends,
Until we meet again,
Thank you for your time,
You’ll be sure to see us in a while.
-
The field trip was super cool.
It was hot, the wind was as cold as a pool.
It was beautiful the colors were like a rainbow in sight.
There were dangerous animals, but no need to have fright.
It was fun, so much better than being at school.
-
Being at the nature park was a great day.
The breeze of the wind was as cold as winter.
The sound of the birds was like a jazz song.
The warmth of the sun brought warm air to the cabin.
The touch of the snake was a nice way to end the day.
-
The nature park is a peaceful spot.
It was hot as the sun.
The sounds of birds were really quiet.
The bell was loud as a voice.
A nice way to end the day.
